"Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you." (‭Philippians‬ ‭4‬:‭4-9‬ NIV) I want to immediately address those that have the tendency to see a chunk of scripture like the one shown above and simply skim over it. That can be me - I can relate. But, for that person, zone in for just a second and receive what God has for you in this moment.

For those that may read through it intricately, I want to encourage you to take a step back and view the practicality of this excerpt of scripture, even though the theological intricacies are important too.

There are such amazing possibilities in Christ Jesus. I find that I read a passage like this and can understand the nice, fuzzy, inspiring theme of it: “Don’t be anxious…give it to God and He will make it all good.” That is easier said than done, am I right?

BUT, his Word is 100% truth. We must have faith, even as small as a mustard seed, to know that what he says IS not only true, but possible. There’s a difference. Truth can be understood cognitively, but when something is possible, it means that it’s achievable, in reach, obtainable. Wow!

So, what is possible because and through Jesus?

"Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:6-7.

Friends, believe it: this is possible, achievable, in reach, and obtainable because of the power of God. God does not give us “nice ideas” and hopes that we can maybe one day obtain them. No! Because of His amazing power and deposit of Holy Spirit in every follower of Jesus, all things that He says are actually possible!

Lastly, I love the practicalities of the scriptures. How can we actually walk out in Philippians 4:6-7, not being anxious, turning our gaze to Jesus in prayer, petition, and thanksgiving, and receiving the unfathomable peace of God that will guard our hearts and minds? He provides some practical advice:

"Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you.” Philippians 4:8-9.

Thank you, Lord, for the unending possibilities we have in You once we choose to walk into them. Help us live this out daily: "But I quit striving for perfection and surrendered up to it instead.” -My Epic.
