What does it mean to love with no strings attached? What does it mean to care for something in your life enough that you can’t help but be whimsical? These are things that God has been working into my heart this year. Last school year was very much a year of refining of who I am. We will have those times and what I have learned is that, last year, I didn’t really know who I was. Though I was a believer, I wasn’t living like a son of God. I wasn’t living a life where I knew that I was loved with no strings attached by the Creator of the Universe.
This summer everything changed for me in regards to my identity. I was awakened to the fact that we are made completely new, that God gives us new hearts and changes our desires. So the desires of our past aren’t even our own desires anymore. God gives us His eyes, and His heart for the people around us. Once I knew all of this about who I am, everything changed.
This semester something happened that made my eyes open about how simple it can be to love others the way we are loved by our heavenly father. I was assigned to a group in one of my business classes and one day one of my group members looked a little out of it. I asked her what was going on and she told me how she was just really, really tired from being up studying. So, I simply told her I would love to get her some coffee! It’s as easy as that, you see someone is in need, and you help them.
What really got me is what she said in response to my offer of a simple cup of coffee. She said that I could; however, she wanted to know what the reason was for wanting to buy her coffee, why I wanted to buy her coffee. It hit me that she was expecting strings to be attached to my simple offer.
That rocked me! People need to experience unconditional love. God loves us with an unconditional love, and He proved it with his Son. Jesus pursued the cross and endured the crucifixion so that we would finally be completely redeemed in our Heavenly Fathers eyes.
If we live in the freedom bought for us on the cross, the world will see it and the world will change.
Christ came to set us FREE. Let’s starting living in the freedom that is FREELY given to us. God is inviting us to come on an adventure, are you willing to go?
In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace that he lavished on us. With all wisdom and understanding.
1 Corinthians 5:14
For the love of Christ controls us, because we have concluded this: that one has died for all, therefore all have died.
